We walked past him, clutching our caramel syrup filled and whipped cream topped cups close to us. He too held a cup with the little green lady on it. But his was a clear plastic, so as to show some strangers' spare change and a single dollar bill. "Welcome to New York!" Here, it feels like everyone is holding a starbucks cup, either with the morning's coffee or the day's earnings. Maybe thats just my perspective....
For the past week we (my teamates and i) have been living on a Salvation Army floor in Harlem. And though the sleeping accomodations are less than 5 star, the company and content is rich. So far, we have spent time site seeing in Manhattan, and working in a soup kitchen and with an after school program. It has been an extremely fun, yet tiring experience.
More updates to come! One week to Africa!
all my love,
Jaclyn
